Nashville, TN workout facility Quantify Fitness, (615-697-3481), a gym that specializes in science-backed personalized workouts that offer a week’s worth of exercise in 10 minutes, has launched a weightlifting program specially designed to benefit older adults.
The newly launched program uses Adaptive Resistance Training (ARX) to facilitate changes in the gene expression associated with vascular remodeling, insulin, blood sugar control, and blood pressure regulation. Derived from a report published at The International Journal of Research in Exercise Physiology, the program is safe for all older adults, effective, and time efficient.

While lifting heavy weights is an important part of regular workout routines for fitness enthusiasts and athletes, research shows heavier weightlifting is especially beneficial for older adults. A newly launched weightlifting program at high-tech Nashville gym Quantify Fitness transforms this data into a variety of high-intensity workouts that take 10 minutes or less per session.
Although the science is clear, older adults can significantly improve their fitness levels through reps at the gym, the challenge is in preventing injury as the intensity increases. This is what the trainers at Quantify Fitness are focusing on with their new ARX-based fitness program.
The gym’s high-tech machines and other data monitoring apparatuses ensure the safety of anyone lifting weights while trainers coach clients through their exercises.
ARX is a particularly efficient and effective form of exercise, say the trainers at Quantify Fitness, who call it “next-level isokinetic exercise.” It combines computer-controlled, motorized resistance that maintains 100 percent of its force over the course of the lifting and lowering process. This fatigues the muscles more efficiently than standard resistance training. Instead of spending an hour at the gym lifting weights, full workouts can be completed within minutes.
A study published by Western Colorado University that compared ARX to traditional weightlifting found ARX produced twice the strength gains with 70 percent less time devoted to workout sessions. The study’s ARX group also achieved three times the fat loss and three times the improvements in VO2max (aerobic capacity), a measure of cardiovascular fitness.
A training facility representative says, “Want to improve your body composition? Put on some muscle. This means more time with ARX and less time on the treadmill. If you’re an older adult, our new program is great for your fitness, but also the best thing for your heart and bones.”
