Fossil has just announced a new smartwatch, the Fossil Gen 6 Hybrid Wellness Edition. If this sounds familiar, it’s because the Fossil Gen 6 Wellness Edition got announced back in October. You will notice that the ‘Hybrid’ part is the differentiating factor here.
The Fossil Gen 6 Hybrid Wellness Edition is official with E Ink display
So, what does the ‘Hybrid’ stands for? Well, the regular model is a Wear OS-powered version, while the ‘Hybrid’ does not come with Wear OS. This watch actually includes an E Ink display, with backlighting, and combines that with mechanical hands on top of it.
You may recall the Skagen Jorn Hybrid HR smartwatch, well, Skagen is a part of the Fossil Group, so if you had a chance to check out that watch, this one will feel somewhat familiar.
Considering this is an E Ink display, it’s always on. The more light the more visible it is. During nighttime, the built-in backlight will help out, as the display itself is not easily visible during the night.
There are three buttons on the right side of the watch. The watch is made out of stainless steel, and it’s 44mm wide, and 11.4mm thick. WE’re looking at a watch that supports 20mm watch bands, by the way, standard ones.
It has great battery life
It also comes with 3ATM water resistance certification, and it offers great battery life, mainly because of that display and software. Fossil says you can get up to two weeks of battery life, while a 60-minute charge will get you to about 80%. Unfortunately, the charging is not wireless, there are POGO pins included, as you can see.
Yes, this watch can show you your notifications, it can notify you when there’s an incoming call, you can use it to control music, and so on. Checking the calendar is also a possibility, as is checking the weather.
The watch does have Amazon Alexa support, while you’ll need the Fossil Smartwatches app in order to take full advantage of what this smartwatch has to offer. You can also change the watchfaces, of course, but those physical dials on top will always be there.
There are a number of ‘Wellness’ feature included here
Fossil did include a number of “Wellness” features here, hence the ‘Wellness Edition’ branding. It comes with a heart rate sensor with zones, blood oxygen (SpO2), VO2 Max, and automatic workout detection. Fossil also included the ‘Wellness Gauge’ watch face here.
Bluetooth 5.0 is included in the package, as is Wi-Fi. The same goes for tethered GPS, a vibration motor, and a microphone. There is no speaker on this watch, though.
The Fossil Gen 6 Wellness Edition comes in three combos. It is available in black dial and case, blue dial with silver case, and a pink dial with rose gold case. The price is $229, and you’ll be able to get it from January 5.
