“Congrats Champ”: 28-Time Olympic Medalist Michael Phelps Reacts To Iconic $65 Million Worth Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin Fight

Michael Phelps, the swimming icon, is undoubtedly a legendary athlete. His pursuit of excellence earned him a record of 28 Olympic medals. The Flying Fish ensured that he got off the pool only to ascend the podium and claim the winning medal. The swimming legend also practiced boxing to maintain a healthy body.

On Instagram, Phelps posted about the magnificent triumph of Canelo Alvarez. He is the only boxer in history to become an undisputed champion at super middleweight. The caption that appears next captures Phelps’ enthusiasm well.

Boxing is an excellent sport to strengthen the upper body and core. It is also known to increase alertness and improve endurance. Phelps appears to have adopted boxing as both a fitness sport and a sport he enjoys following.

Michael Phelps congratulates Canelo

In what can be described as a thundering third encounter, Canelo Alvarez won over Gennady Golovkin on Saturday night. This makes him an undisputed champion reigning over all the super middleweight titles: WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBF titles at 168lbs against Golovkin. Phelps made a post on Instagram Story with a picture of Canelo and congratulated him with the message, “Lfg!!! Congrats champ!!” 

Touted as one of the most-awaited clashes, it’s a huge payday for the two boxers. Canelo received a whopping $45 million, while GGG received $20 million, according to Keith Idec of BoxingScene.com.

Of the trilogy, the duo had fought their first match in 2017 that ended up in a draw although many thought Golovkin won. The following year saw Alvarez emerge as the winner. Well, the third fight seemed unavoidable and the moment arrived, but four years later.

How did Phelps get into boxing?

To maintain a great physique, Phelps followed a regime that included different types of exercises of strength, balance, endurance, and flexibility. He followed strict diet plans and fitness routines to maintain a perfect body and mind to continue his winning streak. During the preparation for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, strength specialist Andy Deichert was hired to help with strength training.
